Solar energy is a rather controversial topic in the sense that solar energy as well as solar system today has many advantages and only one main disadvantage – it is expensive to set up, both in terms of investment and in terms of land.
.
Usually, advocates of solar power and solar electric systems assume that you already have the land or space in which to set it up, but this is not always the case – for example, solar panels set up on the roofs of houses are notoriously inefficient in terms of the angles of the roofs. As a matter of fact, giant solar power facilities set up in deserts might well be a far more viable alternative to home owned systems.
.
However, the problem with that is that governments have not really moved with setting up such systems, one of the reasons for this is that any solar electric systems set up today will only last 25 years or so before the panels become useless, which means a government would lose its investment after that period and will have to make it all over again.
.
Which puts the ball back in the court of individual home owners, and how each person can use that ball is what this article is all about. One of the most obvious things is that solar electric systems are not even an option for the individual unless you own the land for them.
.
However, solar panel system placed on a roof can be made efficient by mounting them on poles and pivots so that they always face the sun directly. This can massively improve efficiency and is definitely recommended to home owners who only have their roofs as possible space in which to install solar electric systems.
.
For those who have some land to spare, especially waste land, there are far more interesting and economic alternatives. For one thing, you could use outdated solar electric systems, which take up more land area but are far cheaper. This is truly a way to cut costs, so go for it if you can spare the space.
.
Another way to cut costs is to buy the solar cells themselves as individual units and to construct and make a solar system with your own hands. This isn’t as implausible as it sounds, and you can work on the skills required, even if you don’t have them to begin with by purchasing just a few cells and experimenting with them.
.
There is a lot of very informative literature available on the net that can assist you on your way to becoming a solar electric systems specialist, but once you’ve mastered the skills and technology, the sky is really the limit for you.
.
If you have spare land, and if you’ve always been handy with your hands, I would say that solar electric systems represent a real opportunity for you, one that you can turn to your profit by building solar electric systems for your neighbors and friends, or alternatively, by building a considerable system and then selling the excess power. Whichever way you look at it, solar electric system represents the future, and an opportunity that should not be ignored.
